Easy Planning

"Failing to plan is planning to fail"

Here is an overview of the planning to help you take the renovation blues away!

Pick your style...

You know what you like when you see it!
Browse through magazines and web sites for ideas and inspiration.
Choose the look you want for your kitchen.

Measure...

The best way to start is with pen and paper. Measure everything carefully and make a rough sketch of your kitchen. That should give you a good idea of the possibilities and limitations that are determined by the shape of the room and the available wall space.

The room

Make a drawing of the room. Measure the height to the ceiling and the distance between walls. Mark out the current position of all permanent fixtures, such as doors, windows, ventilation, plumbing, electricity, radiators, special angles and any other major architectural features.

The walls

Make a drawing of the walls. Measure the height and width of the walls that you want to use for cabinets. Remember to take into consideration the space doors and windows need to swing open. If you’re planning to place a cabinet under a window, remember that the minimum distance between the window frame and the floor should be at least 90 cm, and preferably 105 cm. Include the positions of all permanent fixtures.

Select your cabinets...

Choosing your cabinets will get you started figuring out how your kitchen will be organised. There’s high cabinets, wall cabinets and base cabinets. High cabinets come in different sizes and can include a larder, storage for a vacuum, big bottles, bulk goods, and more. Wall cabinets can be extra high or narrow. Base cabinets are the backbone of your kitchen design. Choose from several sizes to create a perfect work area.

Appliances...

Have your floorplan/measurements on hand when shopping for appliances.

When measuring appliances, allow room for connections, the sweep of doors, and movement around them.

Check whether extra plumbing is needed to accommodate new appliances

Ensure there are sufficient, strategically positioned dual switches to accommodate appliances, allowing simultanious usage.

Choose a quiet diswasher.

To save money, buy appliances as a package.

Personalise...

Knobs and handles, lighting, splashbacks and wall accesories can truly make your kitchen a space of your own.
